Fire Destroys Home on Steam Mill Ferry Road
A space heater being used to keep pipes warm is believed to have sparked a devastating fire at a historic home in Southwest Madison County early Thursday morning. All four people inside the home on Steam Mill Ferry Road were able to escape safely after the home went up in flames just before 2 a.m. Fire investigators said the wood frame house, built in the 1860s, burned quickly. The believe a space heater in a storage room off of the carport sparked the fire.
