Audit Finds Missing Drug Evidence at a West TN Police Dept.
Hundreds of seized drugs are missing at the Crump Police Department according to a state audit released on Wednesday. The investigation revealed there was 343 missing prescription pills from the evidence area from last spring. Chief John Youngson said he was the one that contacted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation when he noticed some missing pills. As of now, there have been no arrests in connection with the investigation. The audit also revealed some of the drugs were not disposed of properly and the list of evidence was not maintained. ” We used to have everything logged on a clipboard. And the clipboard which was basically pencil and paper was actually left for the officers through a mailbox system. Well, the mailbox system was very inadequate to say the least,” said Chief Youngson. He also said since the investigation the department now uses a safe for evidence. They also are investing in a computer system to log the evidence, instead of the clip board.
