Code enforecment officers with the city of Jackson began clearing out an illegal homeless encampment in the middle of North Jackson. One of three camps was found just off Wiley Parker Road in North Jackson, Monday morning. Actually, code enforcement officers say they had visited with the men living in the area a few weeks ago and informed them they were trespassing and had to move. When they returned Monday they found the men’s property but they were nowhere to be found. “We were hoping that they would come back and actually take it upon (themselves) to get their stuff. But if not, we can’t leave the property like this because it’s unhealthy and it’s not safe,” said Sylvester Bingham, a city code compliance inspector. “If you do see something like this, please let us know because, you know, it’s very, especially this time of year here with it being cold and wet. We don’t want anyone out in the cold like this, it’s not good, it’s not healthy for them.” Bingham said they were first alerted about the homeless camps by homeowners in a nearby neighborhood who said they spotted the men pushing shopping carts into the woods.
