Hamlett Enters Guilty Plea in Murder-for-Hire Case

A Carroll County man charged with trying to kill his ex-wife because he was upset with their divorce settlement has pleaded guilty. The Decatur County Circuit Court Clerk told 7 Eyewitness News William Hamlett has pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder and received a sentence of eight years in prison. 7 Eyewitness News spoke with his wife back in October of last year. She said he was upset because the judge had awarded their boat house in Perryville to her. With his plea, Hamlett admits to paying an undercover TBI agent $700 to murder his wife with the promise of another $40,000 when the job was done.
