Santiago’s Parent Speaks Out

The foster mother of Demetreous Santiago, 18, describes him as a good and respectful young man. “We wanted to be a support for him so he could make a success of his life,” said Marilyn Price, Santiago’s foster parent. Price said Santiago lived with she and her husband from April of 2011 until he turned 18. She said he came with impeccable recommendations from the Department of Children’s Services. “He always obeyed and followed every rule we had at the house. He went to church with us.” Investigators said Santiago is wanted as a person of interest in the arson investigation of a vehicle they found burning, Thursday night in midtown Jackson. Officers said they believe Santiago helped transport Charles Jones’ body to Jackson. They would find Jones’ charred body the following day. Price said she was shocked when investigators visited her home. “I said was Demetreous driving and he says, yes, he was driving because we pulled him over and I thought, ‘Lord….,” she said. Price said Santiago has biological family in Memphis. She said she and her husband warned him of the danger of reconnecting with old friends in Memphis. “If you go back and hang out with the same people that you’re trying to get away from, they’ll pull you back,” she said. If you have any information concerning the whereabouts of Santiago, you are urged to call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731)424-8477.
