Another Building Demolished in Downtown Greenfield

Greenfield has lost another building, but unlike January’s collapse, this building was brought down intentionally. The structure that was demolished was right next door to the Legend’s Little Italy Pizzeria, the building that collapsed last month that killed one man. The building’s owner hoped his action’s on Thursday would prevent anything like that from happening again. Building owner, Keith Tucker, said the building demolished on Thursday was in worse shape than the pizzeria. Greenfield residents who watched the demolition process said there was one scary moment. “The roof started falling in and I noticed the wall, it started to fall and it was still scrapping, luckily he’d (demolition worker) seen it and he turned his back around where his back would face the wall,” said Jeff Edwards. Tucker said the demolition worker followed all guidelines he was supposed to, but said it was a close call. “Well, if the wall had been a little taller and the back been a little closer, it could of been a little ugly, but it wasn’t.” Tucker said the property was signed over to him by the previous owner, that was just used for storage. “In order to get it torn down, economically, he went ahead and deeded that one over to me so I could put it under the demolition of the first building, it was a lot more inexpensive that way,” said Tucker. As for what Tucker said he would do with the open property after the clean-up was over? “I would like to have a building that would be good for Greenfield,” said Tucker. Greenfield residents and Tucker said this may not have been the last demolition. “The insurance company is looking to move out,” said Edwards. “We don’t’ know what kind of shape the one next door is in yet,” said Tucker. But Tucker did say he would like to put up a granite memorial for Renardo Jackson, the construction worker killed in the January building collapse.
