The community of Stanton in Haywood County honored a West Tennessee family who has made a big impact on the area. The family of Charles Rawls, who began Golden Circle Insurance, was honored Friday for their business contributions and legacy of leadership in West Tennessee. The Rawls family is featured during the month of July in the 2012 AT&T African American History calendar. More than 50,000 copies of the calendar have been produced for distribution to middle school students throughout Tennessee. “Well it makes me very proud of him,” said Cynthia Rawls Bond, daughter of Charles Rawls. “He was such a terrific person, he was, I call him a genius, he was a man before his time, and most of the things he accomplished were done during the time, under segregation and that made it doubly hard.” “The folks that are featured in this calendar have made a difference in our community and legacy here in Tennessee,” said Trey Rabon, External Affairs director for AT&T. “They’ve built a foundation for future generations and we’re hopeful that younger people, we focus on middle school students, we’re hopeful that these calendars will be inspired to make a difference and a positive contribution in our society.” A copy of the calendar can be downloaded from the Tennessee African American History website.
