Fur Ball to Go on as Planned

Even with a bit of dog gone bad luck, the 14th annual Fur Ball will still take place this coming Saturday night at the Carl Perkins Civic Center with the help of the community. “I would say the majority of the items were lost but we were able to wash off some of the items, some of the items were stacked and so they weren’t effected at all,” said fundraising chairperson Lynn Caldwell. The fire started late Friday morning just three hours after Danya McMurtrey appeared on Good Morning West Tennessee talking about the Fur Ball. The Fur Ball is the largest fundraiser all year for the Humane Society. It pays for things such as electricity and food for the animals.” “We need help from the community and we’ve had volunteers getting out gathering donations but if anyone can donate anything even personal artwork that goes over well,” said president of the Board of Directors for the Jackson-Madison County Humane Society, Danya McMurtrey. The Humane Society does not receive funding from federal, state, county or city Governments. “Obviously it (the fire) was disappointing,” said Caldwell. “We did go in and salvage what we could. I do want to make sure that the public knows none of the new items collected for the auction were in the building.” In addition to the auctions at the Fur Ball there will be food, beverages and a jazz band. “It’s certainly inconvenient but not something we can’t bounce back from,” said McMurtrey.
