This past weekend was the first time the three Jackson clubs seemed as nuisances by the city reopened for business since the lawsuits were filed. The city had cited the hundreds of police calls made to Taboo, Desperados and The Mix Factory over the past 26 months as reason for declaring the clubs public nuisances. The count topped 700 for serious crimes such as assault, drug possession and robbery. 7 Eyewitness News wanted to know about calls for service this past weekend. Heere is what Jackson Police records showed. Taboo only had two calls over the Friday through Sunday period, neither required police action. IN 2011, over the same period ther were seven calls, including a reported stolen vehicle and public drunkenness. Desperadoes had the same number of calls, but the latest was nothing criminal. Last year’s was a disturbing the peace call. The Mix Factory also had the same number last year, but the latest did not involve criminal activity, while one for the calls last year was for gunfire in the area. “The owners are fully capable of taking care of their own internal issues and obviously they did a great job this weekend. As long as the owners and their staff can continue to perform adequately in taking care of their own internal issues, then they’ll have no problem out of the city,” said Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist. “We’re very happy with the status that Jackson is in, in that we’re the entertainment capital of West Tennessee. And all we ask them to do is handle their internal affairs, their internal issues and the city is going to be the least of their problems.” The owners of all three clubs are scheduled to appear in Madison County Chancery Court on April 10.
