Downtown Jackson was transported back in time, Thursday night. As the New Southern Hotel’s Gold Room was officially reopened for the first time in 45 years. Guests of the Gold Room Affair were asked to dress in 1930s and 1940s attire, which was the time the hotel was at the height of its glory. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 and we restored after the 2003 tornadoes by Crocker Construction Company. “We are glad to bring this building back because it’s a landmark and an anchor for our downtown area that personally we are glad to be part of that, and we would like it to be an economic success and a business success,” said Hal Crocker, owner of the New Southern Hotel. Tickets for the event were $100 per person with proceeds benefiting the Downtown Development Corporation.
