March was Warmest Ever Statewide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The month just ended was the warmest March on record across Tennessee. National Weather Service records for Memphis show the mean temperature in the city – averaging the high and low temperatures for each day of the month – was 10.8 degrees above normal with a reading of 64.8 degrees. The same was true in Nashville, where the mean reading of 61.1 degrees was 11.1 degrees above normal. Chattanooga, too, had a double-digit departure – 10.7 – while Knoxville was 10.1 degrees above normal for the month and the Tri-Cities was 10.2 degrees to the warm side. Forecasters said the lack of strong cold fronts moving through the state helped maintain the warm temperatures.
