Union Breaks Ground on New Library

Union University held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for its new library. Hundreds attended the event on the university’s campus. However, it will be a few more months before regular construction begins on the site. Back in October, Union announced a $10 million lead gift by the Bill and Carol Latimer Foundation that would fund the new 600,000 square foot facility. Officials said the new library, which will be three-times the size of Union’s current library is very important and significant to the campus. “This will raise the academic bar at Union University in significant ways, bringing this state-of-the-art, 21st Century academic resource to this campus,” said Dr. David Dockery, president of Union University. Through the end of March, donors had given or pledged more than $5.8 million toward the library project. Nine months remain in the pledge period of the campaign and university officials hope they can reach the campaign goal.
