A two-month investigation yielded hundreds of hundred dollar bills in Paris this weekend. Henry County officials said tipsters pointed them to a house with too much activity. Now one man in jail, but his girlfriend said the money was hers and she wants it back. Henry County deputies confiscated $20,000 at a home in Paris Friday. “It was banded up in one big stack and when I lifted it up, I was like, ‘That’s a lot of cash,'” said Henry County Cpl. Jamie Myrick. “A lot of times you find a lot of dope and little cash. This time we found a lot of cash and a pretty good amount of dope,” said Myrick. Elton Ray, the owner of the home’s brother said, “They didn’t find any drugs in the house. I mean they said they found seeds and paraphernalia.” Deputies said they did not find drugs inside the home, but Sheriff Belew said there was marijuana on the property. He said this is the largest amount of cash seized this year. After tips of a home with suspicious activity, deputies arrested 26-year-old Markia D. Patton. He is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The owner of the home told 7 Eyewitness News the money is hers and said the money is not drug related. “I’ve been working since I was 18 years old like I told the police. I know how to save and if I got that money in there, and it’s my house, what’s the problem?” said Sophia Ray. Sheriff Belew stated, “How many people do you know have $20,000 underneath a baseball cap on a night stand? There are banks in Henry County.” Henry County officials also seized a 2003 Mercury. Patton will appear in General Sessions Court May 1.
