TDOT Gets Plaque Honoring Workers Killed in the Line of Duty
This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week. Wednesday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation spread the word across the state. In Jackson, workers gathered at TDOT to unveil a plaque with the names of the two employees killed last year while working on Tennessee highways. Robert Nowicki was killed while assisting a motorist in West Memphis and Michael Dalton was killed setting up a work zone in Shelby County. These were the first TDOT employees killed while working in the line of duty since 2005. “We want to bring awareness to the workers that work every day and risk there lives trying to make our commute on the road better,” said TDOT spokesperson Nichole Lawrence. Since 1949, the Tennessee Department of Transportation has lost 180 employees in the line of duty.
