Lennox Hearth Sold, Jobs to Stay in Union City
The Union City community can breathe a sigh of relief because the Lennox Hearth plant is not shutting down. Lennox was bought by Comvest and the new company plans on keeping the plant in Union City. Lennox employee Lisa Marcy was overjoyed when she heard the news that the plant will not be shutting down. “We still have our jobs,” said Marcy. “It looks like there going to leave everything the same so far. Our pays are going to stay the same our benefits are the same, so everything is looking good as far as us keeping our jobs in this area.” Marcy has worked at Lennox for almost 30 years and was not ready to look for a new job. Workers heard the company was for sale a couple of months ago and thought the plant’s closure was inevitable. “This was it. I mean we watched Goodyear close last year, so we figured that was it. You know are jobs were gone,” said Marcy. From there she said, rumors started to circle around. “At first it bothered me and then I finally thought I will be okay because I know the good Lord is going to take care of me, he always has and he always will,” said Marcy. Marcy said she has gone through shift changes and was downgraded from a high-paying job to lower-paying job, after doing that job for 25 years. But she still has hope the company will get back to what it used to be. “I’m hoping maybe if the economy will pick back up…we’ll get back up to 500-plus people like we had in here when we had three shifts,” said Marcy. Officials from Lennox Corporate said there are no guarantees that there will not be job cuts in the future.
