Chester County Raises Property Taxes in Addition to Wheel Tax

HENDERSON, TN. – The Chester County Commission voted in favor of a $.35 property tax increase, Monday evening. Eleven votes in favor of the tax increase and seven votes against. This is the second year in a row that the property tax has been raised. Last year the property tax increase was $.28. According to Chester County Mayor Dwain Seaton, the county needs money to offset the $500,000 in lost revenue from the Chester County Nursing Home. “We realize that economic times are hard now. We are trying to get by with the county just the cheapest and best way we can,” said Mayor Seaton. County Commissioners voted for a $29.65 wheel tax increase earlier this summer. County Residents secured enough signatures to put the wheel tax increase to a popular vote on November 6Th. The money from the property tax increase will generate over $700,000 for Chester County. For a $200,000 house the property tax increase will be around $175 a year.
