FINGER, Tenn.- Lanes Chapel Church canceled its service for this Sunday after church members found their power lines cut, and 5-ton air conditioning unit missing, Friday morning. Investigators estimate the unit is worth $1,500. The McNairy County Sheriff’s Department believes the thieves took the unit to sell or for personal use. “If they were going to take it and scrap it, they would have taken all the copper,” said Investigator J.P. Kellum. “They left a lot of metals they could have scrapped.” Part-time Pastor of the church, Don Lipford, said he isn’t sure why anyone would target his small quiet church. “Some of the people who come here have been coming here all their life,” explained Lipford. “It’s just mainly elderly people.” Right now church service for Sunday, August 4, is canceled. Lanes Chapel is working to put a new unit in. The building should be ready for worship again in two weeks. If you have any information that can help call the McNairy County Sheriff’s Dept. at (731) 645-1004.
