Candlelight Vigil Held on One Year Anniversary of Antwan Brooks’ Death
JACKSON Tenn.- Dozens of murder victim’s families and law enforcement officials gathered at Shirlene Mercer Park on Saturday, to honor those who have lost loved ones to violent crimes. Cynthia Williams, mother of murder victim Antwan Brooks, says she wants to give the families of those who have also lost loved ones. “That’s why we are here today to honor their memories of the children they lost to violent crimes,” said Brooks. Many of the families spoke out to the crowd that included Jackson Police Chief Gill Kendrick and other city officials As a community have to stick together,” said Sarah Smith. “And young people need to learn killing is not the answer.” Williams said more parents need to get involved, and stopping violent crimes starts at home. “Make them feel safe, and make them feel safe so they don’t go out to the streets looking for gangs to be their families,” cried Williams. Monday, August 5, 2013 marks one year since Antwan Brooks was killed.
