Trenton police investigate shooting after victim is airlifted in critical condition
TRENTON, Tenn. — A Gibson County shopping center turned into a crime scene Tuesday night, sending one man with a gunshot wound to a Memphis hospital in critical condition.
A little after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Kawasaki Fenner was shot in the parking lot of the Davy Crockett Shopping Center off the Highway 45 Bypass in Trenton.
“A gentleman came up to a car in the shopping center. Kawasaki was the driver of that automobile, and someone shot him in the driver’s seat of the automobile,” Trenton Police Chief Will Sanders said.
Trenton investigators say the victim was shot at least one time in the neck and was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. It isn’t clear how many shots were fired at the victim. He is now in stable condition.
“The investigators are in the process of trying to check local businesses in the area to see if their security cameras may have captured anything,” Sanders said.
Although businesses in this area say they were aware of a shooting Tuesday night, McDonald’s employees were not allowed to comment on the incident.
No clear motive or suspect has been identified in this shooting.
“The investigators have their theories, but we can’t work on theories. We have to work on probable cause,” Sanders said.
According to Chief Sanders, the victim and the few witnesses who were in the area during the shooting haven’t given investigators any leads to identify the shooter. But he says his department is persistent.
“I feel like in the next few days we’ll be at the point that we can at least identify somebody and hopefully and prayerfully arrest somebody,” Sanders said.
