88th annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival returns to Humboldt
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — The West Tennessee Strawberry Festival is underway this week in Humboldt.
Festival week in Humboldt includes events like the festival prayer breakfast, which took place Monday. This year, Mayor Arthur Boykin was the guest speaker. Organizers say they’re also bringing back a fan favorite event.
“A new event we have this year: we’re bringing back our recipe contest. We had this years ago, prior to COVID, and then, when COVID happened, it kind of went away. That event is back and if you’re a strawberry baker, or want to try your hand at a strawberry themed recipe, that will take place tomorrow night. You do not need to preregister for it,” said Beth Culpepper, managing director for the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival.
Culpepper said they are having a firework show Monday at 8:30 p.m. that is free to the public. She added the same traditions are still happening this year.
“This is my first time here, so I’m excited. It looks like it could be a good turnout. I’ve been to a lot of events where it’s been pretty quiet, but street festivals are where it’s at food, vendors, all of it. They’re going to do well out here. So, I’m hoping for a great turnout. I want everybody to come out and have fun,” said Mike Swartz, an attendee.
The week’s events include Tuesday’s berry drink showdown, Wednesday’s shortcake in the park, Thursday’s junior parade and hall of fame reception, and Friday’s grand floats parade followed by the governor’s luncheon. Saturday features the 5K and 10K.
The event has spanned more than 80 years in West Tennessee, bringing in visitors from across the globe.
