Suspect in Jackson motel murder captured in Louisiana

JACKSON, Tenn. — A suspect in a local motel murder has been captured in Louisiana.

U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller announces the arrest of 31-year-old Charles Wilson, who was wanted for murder in Jackson.

A press release states on October 31, 2022, the Jackson Police Department responded to the Rodeway Inn at 2239 Hollywood Drive, where a man was found laying at the bottom of the stairwell with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Travis Hulsey, died as a result of his injuries.

According to JPD, 32-year-old James Brown and 20-year-old Keyanna Massengill were identified as suspects and taken into custody about two hours after the shooting.

The release states JPD investigators determined Wilson was also involved, and an arrest warrant was issued for him on charges of first degree murder and attempted especially aggravated robbery.

The release states Jackson police contacted the U.S. Marshals Service for help in apprehending Wilson, and an investigation was launched.

According to the release, on January 13, Wilson was safely taken into custody in Opelousas, Louisiana. The U.S. Marshals say he is being extradited back to Tennessee to face charges.
