BRADFORD, Tenn- The son of a Bradford police chief was killed in a motorcycle crash; now community members are remembering the man they said he was. “There’s a season of grief that’s non-avoidable but we have to deal with it,” said Assistant Police Chief, Dave Chaffin, of the Bradford Police. Around 7 p.m. Thursday, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 27-year old Tray Combs was thrown from his motorcycle along Highway 105 in Skullbone. Investigators believe he lost control as a truck in front of him slowed down to make a turn. “He will really be missed,” said Don Lannom, a family friend. Combs was the son of Bradford Police Chief, Scott Combs. Officers said they feel as if they’ve lost their own son. “It’s like a family loss for all of us,” said Asst. Chief Chaffin. According to Bradford Police, Combs who was a veteran, was even deployed to Iraq at the same time as his father. “That’s the kind of men that they both were,” said Chaffin. They said Combs was an avid golfer, loved outdoors, and enjoyed being around family. He was married in October of last year and had recently found out he was going to be a father. But in the midst of grief, friends and family said there is a bright side to their loss because Combs was an organ donor. “Even in his death he’ll be a hero to someone else’s family,” said Chaffin.
