Duckfest in Dyer County

DYERSBURG, Tenn- West Tennessee hunters gathered in Dyer County on Saturday, all hoping to win one thing– a duck blind. More than a thousand hunters competed for the duck hunting hideouts at the fourth annual Duckfest in Dyersburg. For years, hunters in West Tennessee have entered their names in the duck blind drawing where Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agents give away a select number of duck blinds throughout the state. To celebrate the annual drawing, which always happens the first Saturday in August, county residents hold Duckfest, with vendors, food, and fun for the whole family. “We decided to make it a little more than a duck blind drawing and decided to call it a Duckfest,” said Eddie Anderson, Chairman of Dyer County Fair Board. There were 17 blinds given away, and despite plenty of food and vendors for the entire family to enjoy, most hunters had one thing in mind: winning a duck blind. “We’re looking for really good places to hunt,” said Randall Butler, one of this year’s winners. “And these duck blinds are it.” The winners will be able to occupy the blinds for the entire duck hunting season which begins in September.
