New Developments; Body Found in West Madison County

Police have identified the body found badly burned Friday on Most Road in Jackson as Charles Jones, 57, of Bartlett. Investigators said Jones is a former Memphis police officer and was lured to a home in Memphis by Ashley Carver, 22, for the purpose of having sex. Authorities said once at the location Michael Dean, 24, shot Jones. Officers said Jones’ body was then put into the trunk of his 2002 Lexus and driven to Jackson. Memphis Police said while in route to Jackson the vehicle would be stopped by a Memphis officer on a routine offense. “The investigation by Memphis Police Department suggest the body was in the vehicle when police officers there in Memphis made the stop,” said Sheriff David Woolfork of Madison County. Investigators said during the stop, Dean would give the officer a bag of cocaine. They said the vehicle which contained Dean and Demetreous Santiago, 18, would flee the scene. “They were later spotted in Madison County by a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer who gave chase…. (who) later lost the individual,” said Sheriff Woolfork. Investigators said they would find Jones’ vehicle burning in Jackson at the intersection of Park Street and Cresent Avenue. They said Jones’ charred body would be found the following day on Most Road, a secluded area near the airport in Jackson. Jackson authorities said Santiago is a person of interest in the arson investigation of Jones’ vehicle. Investigators said Santiago has ties to homes in the 100 block of Reynolds Road and the 500 block of Lexington Avenue in Jackson. Officers said he is wanted on a charge of evading arrest by Shelby County authorities. They said both Michael Dean and Ashley Carver have been taken into custody and charged. They said both are responsible for at least three other recent deaths in Memphis. If you know the whereabouts of Demetreous Santiago, you are asked to call the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477(TIPS).
