WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Friday was a really nice day and Saturday isn’t going to be too bad either. But major changes are coming in Saturday night and a cold blast will be hanging around through Monday next week. Highs were near 60° today but will be near 50° on Saturday. You can cut that number in half for Sunday as mid 20s look to be as warm as things are going to get. We could be below 25° for over 48 hours. Take necessary precautions and take care of your pets, yourself and your pipes during the cold spell. We will have the latest coming up here.
Wednesday/Thursday marked the 4 year anniversary of the deadliest December tornado outbreak we have ever seen. In total there were 71 tornadoes and 89 people lost their lives (most of them were in Kentucky including many in Mayfield. We had two long tracked supercells that spawned an EF3 and an EF4 tornado. Each were on the ground for over 90 minutes and each tracked over 80 miles. We could be looking at another chance for severe weather around Christmas but forecast models 14 days out are often not to be trusted.

THIS WEEK:
Thursday and Friday were decent and were mostly sunny to partly cloudy days. Highs reached up to around 50° on Thursday but back up to around 60° for our Friday. Both days were dry and the winds had a southerly component to them on Thursday but changed to the north Friday evening as the first front pushed in. The partly cloudy skies will make for some mild overnights though. Thursday night will fell down to the mid 30s and Friday night lows should be cooler fall into the low 30s to kick off our weekend behind the dry front that passed late in the day on Friday. Friday’s front came in from the north and will drop temperatures about 10° on Saturday.

THE WEEKEND:
A powerful cold blast is on the way for the upcoming weekend. The system will move through on Saturday afternoon and it looks like it will not be bringing any showers with it to West Tennessee. The system will have two fronts, one late Friday night and the main front coming in late Saturday. Highs on Saturday will only reach the upper 40s from Friday nights front. Saturday’s system will be a low pressure area followed by a potent front. The front will drop us down to around 20° by Sunday morning.

Sunday is going to be by far the coldest day of the fall so far. Remember, winter doesn’t even officially start until Sunday December 21st. Actually we have not encountered cold like this since the middle of February last winter. Highs will only reach the low to mid 20s and the wind chill will hang around 5-10° most of the day as well. We may not get above 25° from Saturday midnight through Monday noon. That is 48 hours of Frigid weather. Please take necessary precautions to yourself, your pets and your pipes.

Expect a mostly sunny day on Saturday and a sunny but brisk day on Sunday. Skies should stay clear Sunday night and that will keep us cold as we head into next week. The winds will be breezy at times this weekend and come out of the north behind the fronts making for a blustery and stinging wind.

NEXT WEEK:
Monday morning is going to be very cold with morning lows in the low to mid teens. Any breeze at all will make it feel in the single digits again. Please have the winter gear ready for the kids before you send out to school for their last week before the Christmas break. Monday will remain mostly sunny but highs will only reach the mid to upper 30s. Monday night will be chilly with lows dropping into the mid 20s. The warm up start on Tuesday with highs reaching the mid to upper 40 and mid to upper 50s are coming on Wednesday. Some showers could return on Wednesday but there is a much better chance for showers and maybe a few storms mixing in on Thursday.
