Jackson’s 2023 Hub City Heroes recognized at City Hall
JACKSON, Tenn. – Heroes of the Hub City were celebrated Thursday morning.
The 2023 Hub City Heroes were recognized at City Hall.
These individuals selflessly offer up their time to give back to the community.
The event started with some words from Jackson Mayor Scott Conger. He spoke a little bit more about the program.
“It showcases members of our community who selflessly give their time and talents to improve the lives of others. Many citizens were nominated with one recipient each month. Recognition as a hero is a small way to thank these public servants for their efforts. It also gives an opportunity for honorees to raise awareness to causes that are important to them,” Conger said.
The Hub City Heroes of 2023 were:
- January — Dianne Sherrod
- February — Hunter Cross
- March — Katie Hale
- April — Nadia Beard
- May — Hunter Hawes
- June — Dr. LaToshia Chism
- July — Ria Patel
- August — Randy Moffett
- September — Kristyn Mayberry
- October — James Cherry
- November — USJ Lower School students
- December — Randy Pierson
After the honorees were recognized, a name was drawn to see who would receive $1,000 to donate to a non-profit of their choice.
“Randy Moffett is the winner of $1,000,” Conger said.
Moffett has served on various boards such as Leadership Jackson, the Dream Center, and Relay for Life. He chose the Dream Center as the non-profit to donate the money.
“And if you don’t know what the Dream Center does, I’m happy to tell you all about it. They help take women and children off the streets and get them out of abusive situations and help them find skills and jobs and safe places to live,” Moffett said.
Moffett talked about what he felt about when he was chosen as a Hub City Hero back in August of last year.
“It’s just a huge honor to be nominated, to receive the award. I love serving my city. I love being a fellow Jacksonian and just helping out my neighbors here in Jackson-Madison County,” Moffett said.
Moffett says it is easier than ever to get involved with nonprofits and encourages anyone to find one that they support and help out.
